Winnipeg Car–Share Coming
A group of Winnipeggers is working on a plan to establish a car–share Co–op. Similar programs have started in several Canadian cities in recent years, in which people can own shares in a car or rent vehicles for short periods. Hundreds of Winnipeggers expressed an interest in car–sharing through a local survey, encouraging the group to start developing a car–share model here. Visit www.wpgcarshare.org for more information!

| Synchronized Traffic Lights |
For many years, CAA Manitoba has advocated for the synchronization of traffic lights in Winnipeg, to improve traffic flow and decrease pollution. Light synchronization eases congestion, while reduced idling and travel time decreases green house gas emissions. The City of Winnipeg is slowly but surely moving to a synchronized traffic lighting system. According to the City, the synchronized lighting system will result in an estimated 10% to 15 % general improvement in traffic flow.
Upgrades to systems on Pembina Highway and Bishop Grandin Boulevard should be completed in 2009. A total of 76 intersections will be fitted with the new system upon completion of the project. The work is scheduled to be completed by 2012, at a cost of $12–million.
