| School Zones: A Safety Lesson |
They’re back! Every fall thousands of Manitoba schoolchildren return to the hallowed halls of learning to hit the books. As drivers, we all assume the responsibility of being extra–vigilant during the school year.
What You Can Do As A Driver
- Scan ahead to spot school zone signs or school buses
- Slow down; give yourself time to react to surprises
- Be seen; drive with your headlights on
- Avoid distractions such as eating, drinking or cell phones
- If driving your kids to school, drop them off in a safe area away from traffic
Always Remember: You must stop for school buses that are loading or unloading children. Wait until the upper red lights stop flashing and the attached "Stop" sign is closed.
Drivers travelling in BOTH directions must stop for the school bus, except if the road is divided by a physical barrier such as a boulevard or median.
