Combat Auto Theft
The risk of auto theft is highest between 1:00-5:00 AM. If you're not usually on the road during these hours, you can register this information with Winnipeg Police.
CAT, or Combat Auto Theft, is a free vehicle identification program that partners motorists and Winnipeg police in the fight against auto theft. CAT is a highly visible, reflective bright yellow and black decal for your car window, and a red flag to police if seen on the road between 1:00-5:00 AM.
A CAT decal is your invitation to police to pull your car over and verify the driver's licence and registration during these wee hours of the morning. Last year, only two of the 8,000 Winnipeg vehicles displaying a CAT decal were reported stolen.
