Public Utilities Board

The Manitoba Public Utilities Board (PUB) regulates the rates being charged by a number of Manitoba utilities, including Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI). For the past 20 years, CAA Manitoba has participated as an intervener in the month-long proceedings to ensure rates are just and reasonable for motorists in our province. We have also taken an increasing interest in the Corporation’s road safety initiatives.

On December 5, 2014 the Public Utilities Board approved MPI’s General Rate application of an overall 3.4% rate increase to Basic compulsory motor vehicle premiums for the 2015-2016 insurance year, effective March 1, 2015.

Here is how the increase will be distributed by major vehicle class:

Major Class Percentage Change
Private Passenger +3.7%
Commercial -1.8%
Public +6.2%
Motorcycle -5.8%
Trailers +6.1%
Off-road vehicles -14.3%
