Where to save on dining and when to get visitors' insurance.

I know CAA Rewards offers dining discounts. So where can I take my family to get the savings?

These days, busy schedules can interfere with family dinners. That's why CAA Rewards offers up dining options to save you time and money. Whether it's a special event like a birthday or a quick bite after the game, CAA Rewards dining partners can whet any appetite. CAA members save 10 percent at most restaurant partners, or you can get special perks like a free appetizer or dessert. For complete and up-to-date details anytime, visit our dining partners. To get you started, here are some of my favourites.

If time is tight or you just want a quick treat, flash your membership card at Harvey's, New York Fries or Marble Slab Creamery.

For sit-down family dinners, head to any location of Montana's, Santa Lucia Pizza (takeout too) and Swiss Chalet. We're pleased to welcome new dine-in partners as well: Elephant & Castle, Original Joe's, and State & Main. If you're in Brandon, your membership scores you a discount at eateries such as East Side Mario's and Swiss Chalet.

Save even more when you buy The Ultimate Dining Card online. You'll get five percent off the purchase of the card, and you can use your member savings at the eateries.

Enjoy tasty perks when you're travelling too. Save 10 percent at these locations in the Winnipeg Airport: Prairie Bistro, Skylights Lounge, Fuel Bar, Urban Crave, Root98, Freshii, True Burger and Green Carrot.

I have family coming to visit from overseas and I heard they need "visitors to Canada insurance." What is this?

People outside the province are not covered by Manitoba Health. Visitors to Canada insurance coverage protects loved ones should an unforeseen accident or illness happen during their stay. This insurance is mandatory for anyone coming on a super visa, but it's also a good idea for all visitors as emergency medical expenses can add up fast.

Like travel insurance, it covers the person for emergency medical treatment while in Canada or if they're also visiting another country (for less than 49 percent of the time spent in Canada, excluding country of origin). This may include hospital visits, lab tests, prescription drugs, emergency dental expenses and medical repatriation to their country of origin. Coverages range from $10,000 to $150,000, with deductibles from $0 to $5,000.

Plans can be purchased for up to 365 days at a time, for a maximum of two years. (A super visa requires minimum $100,000 coverage for 365 days.) There's no medical questionnaire, no age restrictions and there may be coverage for preexisting conditions. Family rates are also available.

You can purchase visitors to Canada insurance before or after arrival in Canada, but I recommend getting it before (there's a waiting period after the traveller arrives). You'll need the visitor's full name, birthdate and travel dates. Learn more at caamanitoba.com/visitcanada.
